Our tour will focus on visiting service projects in the Guatemala highlands, home of Maya culture, and interacting with the Guatemalans running these projects, many of whom are our former students. This is a unique opportunity to meet Guatemalans in a non-tourist atmosphere. Your guides will be bilingual staff members from our scholarship program.

The $900 per person fee includes a $100 donation to PROGRESA which will be used to sponsor one of our students as well as all in-country lodging (double room occupancy), meals and transportation. Your only additional cost will be transportation to and from Guatemala City, souvenirs and alcoholic beverages. We will work with you and your group members to arrange appropriate dates for the tour.

The Guatemala Friends Meeting, in conjunction with the Guatemalan Scholarship/Loan Program (PROGRESA), offers culturally focused tours of this poor but beautiful country. We will take your group of six or more friends on a seven day/eight night tour of Guatemala, including visits with our scholarship students and their families and trips to famous tourist spots such as Lake Atitlan and colonial Antigua.

In an effort to expand and deepen our connection with Guatemala for Quakers and others, we decided to begin offering "Guatemala Study Tours." These tours give participants a chance to experience Guatemala at a deeper level than is possible for most tourists. In February 2002, we conducted our first tour of the Guatemala Highlands, which was a great success. Since then, we have conducted several other tours, also with great results.

In 2009, PROGRESA implemented a new tour called the "Teaching English Work Tour." These tours, held in Antigua at Belen Convent, give our participants a new adventure and our scholarship students the opportunity to learn English as a second language. Our tours are great for travelers who like to meet new people and experience Guatemala off the beaten path.
